The Informed Vegan: Florida Bans Bestiality.

theinformedvegan:

baby goats

Last month we told you about Florida’s third attempt to ban sexual contact with animals (aka bestiality). Good news from the sunshine state, the ban has passed the legislature and is awaiting the signature of the governor!

The ban was inspired by the disturbing story of a pregnant pet goat, Meg, who was asphyxiated and died while being raped in 2007.

Welcome to the 21st century Florida! Now there’s one less state where you can legally sexually assault an animal. One down, 21 more states to go.

ACTION ALERT!! SIGN THIS PETITION!!

veganarchismdaybyday:

DO YOU BELIEVE ANIMALS DESERVE BASIC LEGAL RIGHTS?

Deprived of legal protection, animals are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans. Through the Animal Bill of Rights, the Animal Legal Defense Fund is working to show Congress a groundswell of support for legislation that protects animals and recognizes that, like all sentient beings, animals are entitled to basic legal rights in our society.

More than a quarter-million Americans have already signed the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s Animal Bill of Rights.

Sign on your support and speak out to your lawmakers today!

A Petition to the United States Congress

I, the undersigned American citizen, believe that animals, like all sentient beings, are entitled to basic legal rights in our society. Deprived of legal protection, animals are defenseless against exploitation and abuse by humans. As no such rights now exist, I urge you to pass legislation in support of the following basic rights for animals:

The Right of animals to be free from exploitation, cruelty, neglect, and abuse.

The Right of laboratory animals not to be used in cruel or unnecessary experiments.

The Right of farm animals to an environment that satisfies their basic physical and psychological needs.

The Right of companion animals to a healthy diet, protective shelter, and adequate medical care.

The Right of wildlife to a natural habitat, ecologically sufficient to a normal existence and self-sustaining species population.

The Right of animals to have their interests represented in court and safeguarded by the law of the land.

Petition: Animal Cruelty Goes Mobile

v3getarian:

Tell Google they should not promote animal cruelty!

In this day of technology, you can find mobile applications (“apps”) for just about anything, from getting weather forecasts to finding shopping bargains. Now, thanks to a new app by Kage Games, you can virtually participate in the sadistic “bloodsport” of dogfighting. The KG Dogfighting app, which sells on Google’s Android Market website, entices gamers to “Feed, water, train and FIGHT your virtual dog against other players….” The logo is a pit bull’s bloody face.

“The game teaches users how to breed, train, fight, medicate and kill virtual dogs,” said Paul M. Weber, President of the Los Angeles Police Protective League. According to a news article, the game “allows players to train a virtual pit bull to fight other virtual dogs and build street cred that ‘puts money in your pocket and lets you earn more in fights.‘“Players have a “gun for police raids and can inject the dog with steroids.”

Dogfighting is a violent crime that is a felony in all 50 states, and it is a federal crime if it involves interstate or foreign commerce. Dogfighting victims suffer cruel training methods and often die in fights. Those dogs not killed during fights may be viciously killed by their handlers when they do not win. Family pets are sometimes stolen to be used as “bait” animals. This is not a game – it is animal cruelty.

Take Action!

What Is “Animal Rights?”

lovingledzeppelin:

“It’s the philosophy of allowing nonhuman animals to have the basic rights that all sentient beings desire: freedom to live a natural life, freedom from human exploitation, unnecessary pain and suffering, and premature death.”

ANIMAL CRUELTY FAILS.: Urge PETCO to Ditch Rabbit Fur Toys!

animalcrueltyfails:

PETCO has been under fire for years for animal neglect and mistreatment, overcharging customers, and purchasing animals from massive, abusive mills. In 2008, after pressure from PETA, the House Rabbit Society, and other animal protection groups, PETCO announced that it would phase out the sale of rabbits in its stores and work with adoption groups to place homeless rabbits as part of the company’s “commitment to saving more animal lives.” But despite knowing about the horrific suffering that goes into every fur-trimmed toy, the company refuses to stop carrying toys made from the fur of dead rabbits.

Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages that are so small the animals can barely take more than a few steps in any direction. Wire cages cut into rabbits’ delicate foot pads, and the animals are denied the opportunity to engage in natural behavior such as running and burrowing. Fur farmers use the cheapest killing methods available, including neck-breaking, suffocation, poisoning, and genital electrocution. Crude killing methods aren’t always effective, and sometimes animals “wake up” while they are being skinned.

The best way to help animals who are abused for their fur is never to buy fur or support companies that sell real fur.

Please use the form below to urge PETCO’s CEO to dump fur for good. Let him know that you will not shop at PETCO until all real fur is off the shelves.

Fuck PETCO.

Tell the NIH: Make a Plan to End Animal Experiments

TRIGGER WARNING - Monkey in cage through the link

“Almost twenty years ago, Congress demanded that the National Institutes of Health move toward non-animal methods of scientific research — yet still, little progress has been made.

Animals are sentient beings, just like you and me. They show emotions, feel pain and don’t deserve to be manipulated and abused in laboratory experiments. We have developed effective technology to replace animal-based experiments. And in cases where such technology isn’t yet available, we must work to develop it.

It’s time we start seriously exploring these more humane, and even more effective, testing methods. Tell the National Institutes of Health Director Francs Collins to make a plan with concrete actions to end the use of animals in scientific research.

Animal Rights Activists Calling For Ban Of Horse-Drawn Carriages In NYC

(credit: CBS 2) (credit: CBS 2)

“Animal rights activists want horse-drawn carriages to ride off into the sunset.

Dozens rallied Saturday at Central Park to protest what they call safety hazards and animal cruelty.

“It really isn’t a safe environment for anybody and we have to use our powers of human empathy to relieve horses of this grinding work,” said assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal.

Rosenthal said she feels sick inside when she sees the horses and carriages on the side on the road. “The horses have to work in the heat, in the winter,” she said. ”I was looking at them today, their feed was filled with pigeons.”

She said places like Biloxi, Mississippi and Beijing, China have banned horse and carriage rides and because the city council refused to act on the ban, Rosenthal said they will fight for the ban on a state level.

“There is only a few weeks left in the state legislature so we will be building momentum and start fresh in January,” she said.

Rosenthal said it is not a tourist attraction because tourists will come to New York City even if there are no carriage rides.

The stable that operates carriages in Central Park released a statement saying, ”We are regularly inspected by the Department of Health, ASPCA and the Department of Consumer Affairs year round. Our horses are the best treated horses in the country.””

Updated: Star succumbs to injuries - just a day after animal cruelty protest

“Star, the mixed-breed dog which was rescued near Ghar Hasan after having been shot, bound and buried alive, died this afternoon.

The sad news came less than 24 hours after hundreds of people took part in a demonstration against animal cruelty - the biggest protest of its kind ever held in Malta.

Star, whose plight shocked the nation, had been under care at St Francis animal welfare centre and had been thought to be making good progress.  She was operated upon soon after the rescue, and 40 gunshot pellets were removed from her head.

Star died at 3 p.m. [June 6] after having suffered an acute inflammation in her pancreas which developed in the past few days.

Just last Saturday the dog spent a few hours with her new would-be owners in order to get accustomed to them and her new surroundings. But she then started throwing up and was returned to the welfare centre.

The dog’s plight drew attention in many countries and many people had offered to house her.”

——

May who ever did this to her be found and prosecuted! I don’t understand how people can be so cruel to any living being. Star was a fighter, and even after 40 shots to the head, she kept fighting until her body couldn’t any longer.

RIP Star.
